Episode 169 – Turnkey Linux LAMP Stack – Review
Author: Andrew Jamison | Filed under: ReviewsThis episode set a milestone for the Category5 community as it featured the first episode to use the green screen live! I was very impressed with the quality of this episode, the green screen seemed so realistic and that added to the episode.
Other monumental things happened in this episode as well, for example Robbie announced that his account was in fact updated to the no video limit group. This means that now Category 5 episodes can be watched via YouTube. This is a huge deal as it not only drives in new users to this show but it helps those with impairments and other disabling conditions that might hinder their enjoyment of the show. Such ways it can help is by offering Close Captioning on the fly, while not perfected yet it has a shockingly accurate track record with transcribing content in the video to text.
This episode also marked one of the first times since Hillary Rumball left the show, which she was actually back in person. She had made many other appearances since she left the show via Skype but had yet to actually make it back in person; it was nice to see her in person. In addition to Hillary’s return were also serenaded by Erik’s Christmas guitar solos during times when Robbie was trying to look up information. The feature which I think should be added more often, that coupled with the festive background made this episode seen very cheerful and fun.
The show was not lacking for content either, containing the useful amount of information that we’ve come to know from the typical category5 episode. Robbie also touches on such points as using turnkey linux to setup a linux webserver in very easy steps, Matt Asay leaving canonical, the voyager one space probe reaching the end of the galaxy, the life hacker attack and much more. All in all would say this episode was chock full of useful information and a little fun thrown in to.
If that isn’t enough for you, sit back and enjoy the musical styling of Robbie and Erik as they sing and play the guitar and have an all around good time. Aside from the technical aspects of the show it is all the personal interaction between co-hosts that makes this show so enjoyable to watch.
So what are you waiting for, if you haven’t seen the episode yet go watch it you won’t be sorry, To make things easy I have included a link below to watch the episode without having to navigate through the category5 web site.
